I’m a copy editor at the beginning of my freelance career, with extensive experience in copywriting and copyediting from previous roles.

For seven years in my role at an arts organization, I wrote and edited copy for newsletters, social media posts, websites, public speeches, and festival program books. I’ve also copyedited short fiction of my fellow writers.

I am otherwise self-taught, primarily from The Copyeditor's Handbook, The Chicago Guide to Copyediting Fiction, and Editing Canadian English.

Short Story Copy Edit

A basic copy editing (Canadian English) of your short story under 5,000 words.

$50 CAD

Delivery: 4 days

I will thoroughly read your story and make suggestions on grammar, punctuation, sentence structure, etc. 

I can also make suggestions as a reader, providing light feedback (like a beta reader) and queries for better comprehension.

After you receive my suggestions and make your changes, I can give your story a final proofread.

I can work with your document in Google Docs, Microsoft Word 365, or Scrivener.

What is your experience editing short stories?
I recently published my debut collection of short stories (Ebony, Blood, and Snow), which I edited myself, to a point. (You can't solely edit your own work.) It has 3.9 stars on Goodreads. I have edited the short fiction of my fellow writers.

Why is your cost so low?
I feel confident in my copy editing abilities with my experience and self-study, but as a beginner in freelancing, I want to keep my price low to attract my first clients, who will give me the experience to grow and learn the process.

I write in American English. Can you still edit my work?
Yes, I can also edit in American English. I would suggest you use an American professional proofreader on your work as well to ensure natural usage.
