Line and Copy Editing
I provide editing services that adhere to the Editors Canada Professional Editorial Standards for both Stylistic Editing and Copy Editing. Line editing is often understood to be a combination of stylistic editing and copy editing.
In brief, my editing service includes the following:
editing to clarify meaning, ensure coherence and flow at the paragraph and sentence level, and refine the language; and
editing to ensure correct and consistent grammar, punctuation, spelling and usage.
I edit to help the author make their project the best they can make it and to help the reader have the best reading experience. My editing style is direct and kind communication. I only correct what is inarguable and otherwise leave many notes and suggestions for the author to take or leave while keeping their authentic style.

You will provide me with a completed short story or novella that you have written, edited, and are very proud to share. My job is to catch technicalities and make sure it’s a smooth reading experience for the reader.
I will thoroughly read your story and make corrections to grammar, punctuation, and sentence structure, and make suggestions on clarity, consistency, and language. I work in Canadian or American English.
I will provide a style sheet, editor's notes, and reader feedback.
I will work on your document in Microsoft Word. You will receive .docx files with tracked changes and comments.
After you make your revisions, I will give your story a final proofread.
I can provide an Assessment Edit under 1,000 words before an agreement for a project is made.

I’m a freelance editor with a lifelong love of reading, writing, and correcting others’ grammar (whether they asked or not).
As an editor, I am excited to help writers of short fiction finish their short stories, medium stories, novelettes, and novellas. I believe the short story as a storytelling format is underappreciated. Especially in speculative fiction (fantasy, horror, sci-fi), short stories are some of the most memorable and definitive of the genre.
