We are very excited to have our very first guest on the podcast! Our friend Greg, the biggest comic book nerd we know, graced us with his presence and blessed us with much knowledge of the Marvel and DC universes that we didn't know from only watching the movies. If you're like us and love the movies but haven't read the comics, you will love learning more about the characters and storylines you know and some you don't know (yet). We covered Marvel and DC's upcoming movies and TV shows, women in film & comics, and just had a blast talking about favorite characters and movies.

The Doctor's Companions Ep. 27: Ten's Companion Round-Up!
Everyone's back! Rose, Mickey, Jackie, Jack, Sarah Jane, Martha, and Harriet Jones (Former Prime Minister)! Jack brings Torchwood (the institute and the show) and Sarah Jane brings her son, Mr. Smith, and K-9 (from her show, which none of us have watched). The gang's all here to help bring The Doctor one second out-of-sync with the rest of the universe to find the Earth, Davros, and the Daleks. Things are a bit dangerous for a while, but then The DoctorDonna is created and saves the day!
The companions all go off to their happy endings. Well, most of them. (RIP Harriet Jones, Former Prime Minister) Rose's happy ending is bittersweet as she says goodbye to The Doctor but gets to live happily ever after with her own human-ish Doctor in her parallel universe. Donna, however, gets the most tragic end. No, she doesn't die or get dropped off in a parallel world to live out her life. She gets to keep living... as just Donna. Donna without The Doctor. Donna without self-esteem or perspective or an adventurous spirit... She has to forget everything about The Doctor and their adventures and being "the most important person in the whole of creation" and go back to being "just a temp" Donna. The most tragic ending.

Tuesdays with Tish (and Juliana): Friendiversary
This Week in the Movies: Nina, Gilmore Girls, Lilly Wachowski
Welcome to our first episode of 'This Week In the Movies'! We've extracted our recently watched/trailers/news segment from the beginning of each podcast and given it its own episodes! Between our regular (and irregular) episodes, you can keep up to date on what we've been watching, what we're looking forward to, and what's actually going on
in the movies
lately. That means our episodes will get straight into their topic with no small talk, just movie talk!
This first episode is a littler longer than we hope they will be, since we had quite a few things saved up we wanted to mention, future episodes should be under 20mins. (I say that, but, clearly, we can
talk
...)

The Doctor's Companions Ep. 26: Molto Bene! Allons-y!
Allons-y to one of my favorite episodes! It's molto bene! I love the suspense, mystery, fear, creepiness, and show of human nature in Midnight. I think it's a brilliant episode with everything that's great about Doctor Who (except the spectacular visuals, I mean they're on a bus the whole time). Linda and Juliana are not so enthusiastic about its brilliance, but we all had a great time discussing it. And then we were glad to see plenty of Donna in the next episode, but found it so depressing! What a rough world it would be without The Doctor! What a great episode to show how incredible Donna Noble is, even without The Doctor. She's so smart and brave! This was a great podcast episode, so have a listen and let us know what you think about these episodes! And how sad are you already thinking about what comes next?!

In the Movies Ep. 20: 2016 Awards Season
You'll know from listen to our podcast that Juliana and I don't put much weight to film awards. We're more of the thinking that movies are art and art is too subjective and personal to be label "good" or "bad" or ranked or rated. Not that we don't acknowledge the vast amounts and variety of technical work that goes into making films. Like in the case of
Carol
, we could see that the movie was very well made in nearly every aspect, but we just weren't drawn into the story and the characters. "Technically good" does not mean everyone will enjoy it.
Despite our history of seeing very few Oscar-winning movies and refusing to give movies a quantitative rating, we felt we couldn't let this year's awards season go by unmentioned. We wanted to focus mostly on the Oscars, since it is the biggest deal in both the industry and the public's eyes. And because of that, its problems like #OscarsSoWhite (for the second year in a row) and lack of women and LGBT recognition are also big deals.
So, listen up as we discuss the Oscars past & present, who's voting for the Oscars, and how people of color, women, and the LGBT community fair at the awards, and in the industry.

The Doctor's Companions Ep. 25: Count the Shadows
No technical difficulties for this episode! And good, thing, too, because Juliana loves this two-parter so much there's no way she'd let the podcast episode go. Although, maybe she wouldn't have minded having to do this one again since she loves it so much. I love it, too! It's a great Moffat story about scary things in the dark and, most excitedly, the first appearance of my beloved River Song!
Aside from just loving the fun and danger of the story, we talk about River's and The Doctor's timeline(s), and wonder what River's cyber afterlife would really be like. I also have a slightly inappropriate guess at what the "only time [The Doctor] could" tell River his name. What do you think it is?
At the top of the episode, we answer the question of which Doctor we'd like to see have more adventures with River. Juliana and I are pretty sold on Ten, Linda's not sure, but we all agree that River and Nine would probably just hate each other! And our question for you to answer when we talk about the season finale with the Daleks and their creator, Davros, is; Who do you think is The Doctor's greatest enemy? Ooooh.....

In the Movies Ep. 19: #50ShadesofDrunk
I think the drinking game speaks for itself. Do not attempt to watch this movie sober. Happy Belated Valentine's Day!
Drink Every Time...
Anastasia bites her lips.
Someone says “Laters, baby.”
Christian says, “That’s not what I do” or “I don’t make love” or “I don’t do romance” or any variation thereof
Christian is wearing tight jeans without a shirt, while Anastasia is fully naked
Anastasia’s eyes are covered by a hand, mask or improvised blindfold
Cunnilingus is implied but not explicitly performed
Female orgasm is implied but not explicitly denoted
You find yourself depressingly unaroused during an S&M sex scene.
A spank is administered
There's a weird closeup of hands
Christian appears out of thin air
Christian could be confused for a serial killer
Christian says a line that’s meant to be serious or sexy but actually just makes you burst out laughing
You see pubic hair
Ana and Christian refer to each other “Mr. Grey” and “Ms. Steele”
Christian tells her to eat, etc.
We added...
Ana speaks above a whisper
It reminds you of Twilight
For every movie...
An obvious cliché/overdone trope/lazy storytelling
(ie. She trips to show she's a mess, emotional moment in the rain)
You can predict what they're about to say

The Doctor's Companions Ep. 24: No Actual Unicorn :(
This episode was our first time broadcasting live on Periscope while we recorded and the first time we
needed
Periscope when we were done recording! That's right, we actually needed the saved recording of our Periscope because some dummy (me) didn't make sure Garageband had the right mic selected (after having some issues with that while recording the #50ShadesofDrunk podcast last weekend) so when we were done, we found that there was nothing recorded! After about 30 seconds of considering our options- record the episode again with much less enthusiasm or just skip the episode- I looked to my left, at my iPhone in its little tripod currently sending us through cyberspace via Periscope, and realized I could save the Periscope recording and take the audio from that! Even better- it doesn't sound too bad! So, that's the story of how Periscope saved the day!
So, get over the slightly worse audio quality and listen to us talk about which author we'd want to adventure with, the weird Doctor Who family connection of Peter Davidson, Georgia Moffett, and David Tennant, and one of the best Tennant-Tate scenes ever!

The Doctor's Companions Ep. 23: Sontar-Ha! Potate-Oh!
Despite our disappointment in seeing Martha again and wanting to just punch that genius kid in the face, we did have fun with these Sontaran episodes! We continue to be amazed with Donna and how her character is developing. So smart. So funny. So brave. The DoctorDonna have some great moments and one of our favorite characters, Wilf, is back! What a fun, yet annoying, story!
This week's question was quite creative- Since the Sontarans look like potatoes, we wondered what other vegetables or fruits would be good inspiration for a Doctor Who alien. Linda, the artist of our group, drew her creation inspired by an eggplant, Juliana forgot to bring in her drawings of rutabaga and carrot-inspired aliens, and I didn't have an alien creation exactly, just a fruit of inspiration.

What's that you hear? A beautiful new intro for the podcast? Why, yes it is. And then, what's this, we have a Twitter? Why, yes we do! Follow us @DrsCompanions and then join in the podcast fun by answering questions and generally saying what up. You can tweet us your answers to our episodic questions, like this week's question about Peter Capaldi being announced as the Twelfth Doctor. Juliana and I had some issues with the reuse of a Whoniverse actor. But we move on and enjoy learning all about what really went down at Pompeii (or what I think really went down). And then I get weird again, asking about the Ood's bodily functions...
This week, we asked you: If you could experience an adventure with an author in the style of their books, which author would you choose?

In the Movies Ep. 16: Christmas Party By Proxy
It ain't a holiday without a Drunk Disney episode from your favorite podcasters/drunks! This time, we're watching 90's teen heart throb, Jonathan Taylor Thomas (not his real name, as we discover) in a delightfully terrible Christmas movie. Also starring the ageless beauty Jessica Biel as our new feminist hero.
As usual, when we get drunk and try to talk about a movie, we end up talking about so many other topics that have nothing to do with the movie. This time, we talk a lot about how annoying it is that we had to record while my landlords are having their Christmas party upstairs. Apologies if the crappy electric guitar sounds make it impossible to listen to the podcast at all, but we weren't going to cancel a date to get drunk. Oh no, we have a responsibility to our listener(s?) to provide you with a festive, drunk podcast before Christmas, so here it is. Upstairs Christmas party and all.
Here are the drinking game rules that we used for the movie, including the ones we made up as we watched.
Drink every time...
Your heart is warmed.
Someone says "Merry Christmas!"
You sing along with a Christmas carol
Someone says "The spirit of Christmas" (or similar)
You see a mall Santa and/or a Santa costume
You see an angel or a guardian angel-type character
Christmas decorations being used incorrectly
There's a disaster!
Someone calls Jake (JTT) "Santa"
Jake is in a new state
One of the college dudes refers to himself as "-man" (ie Ed-Man)
And don't forget the classic Santa hat on the corner of the TV. Drink every time it looks like someone is wearing it.
The next podcast will be our 2015 Year in Review, so stay tuned! And check out our latest (spoiler-free) movie review video for Carol!

Buddy the Elf is Just Like Us!
Oh, hello. You’re probably here about the story...
It's the story of a grown-up who loves Christmas a little too much. Like we all do, right? Elf is the most relatable Christmas movie because we (just me?) have so much in common with Buddy...
Read MoreIn the Movies Ep. 15: The Family Stone & Ensemble Casts
We're getting Christmassy on the podcast! We have fun talking in depth about one of our favorite Christmas movies, The Family Stone. We break it down how characters are introduced, what characters tell us about themselves and other characters, and how creepy Everett actually is. We talk way too long about the movie until we briefly talk about other types of ensemble movies. We agree the separate-but-connected type never really works, and how movies like The Avengers use an ensemble cast in an entirely different way.

Doctor's Companions Ep. 21: Christmas BFFs
It's Christmas time at the podcaaaaast! We choose our favorite Christmas specials and then talk about how much Linda loves Kylie and Juliana and I love Russell Tovey. There's a lot to talk about in this Christmas special, even though we don't think it's that great.
And then it's The DoctorDonna! I think we can all agree that The Doctor and Donna miming/mouthing/signing at each other across the room is one of the best scenes in television ever, right? And then there's the cute little Adipose! What a great way to lose weight and meet some cute lil aliens! We are so excited for this season with Donna. She's an amazing character and their relationship is just the best!
Our question for episode 23 is a weird one:
What vegetable or fruit would you like to use as inspiration for a Doctor Who alien? Sometimes we struggle with coming up with questions related to the episodes, so the potato-looking Sontarans is the direction we went.
