They say every living thing has a soul; every fox, every mulberry bush, every ant. But did you know that sometimes souls move between bodies?
One day, a brave girl, too brave, walked across an icy river and fell through. When her family pulled her out of the water, her body was dead. As they cried over her cold, still body, the soul of a tree on the river bank welcomed the girl’s soul into the tree. Trees are special; a tree can hold many souls in its branches. The girl’s soul settled into the tree like a warm comforting home. This tree’s soul, however, was restless; it longed for adventure. The soul departed from the tree and went into the girl’s soulless body. Breath! Lungs were much more challenging to use than leaves, the tree soul found.
For many days, while the girl’s soul rested peacefully in the riverbank tree, the tree soul lived the life of the girl. The soul experienced all the movements of a human body; running, dancing, resting. And many emotions; love, fear, sadness, joy. It was almost too much for the tree soul to take. Trees move and feel very slowly; a girl lives life fast.
When the tree soul had had enough and longed to be in the tree again, it took the girl’s body back to the tree and moved back home. Once again, the girl’s body lay soulless by the river. While the girl’s soul had enjoyed the peaceful rest of her time in the tree, with her body near, she remembered how much she loved her family, so her soul moved back in. Breath! She felt full of energy as she filled her lungs with air. She said goodbye to the souls of the tree and ran back home to her family.
