Once, in a dangerous land far away, a woman, pregnant with a terrible man’s child, was taken in by a travelling coven of witches. The woman had never experienced true love and was surprised everyday by the kindness of the strangers. The witches cared for her, and her baby, told her stories, shared their wealth, and loved her deeply.
One night, the woman awoke with a pain, she felt it was time for the baby to be born. Not wanting to bother her new friends, she walked away from their camp down the beach to go through the birth alone. It wasn’t long before the witches heard her cries of labour and came to help her. Despite her protests, the witches held her and talked her through her first childbirth. After the baby was born, they built a fire and performed their blessing on mother and child.
And from that day forward, the woman accepted the help, love, and support of her family, and of strangers. And she taught her daughter the same.

I wanted to write something about friendship and intimacy and how that can be hard for some people who never learned to let people in.
